Ohio New Year's Eve Event Celebrates 20 Years!

December 19, 2016

Spend New Year's Eve in Ohio's Lake Erie Shores & Islands and partake in a unique north coast tradition that's been entertaining revelers for 20 years - the New Year's Eve Walleye Drop!

Each year, thousands brave the cold and gather for hours, waiting for the Walleye Drop. Port Clinton is known as the "Walleye Capital of the World," so it only makes sense to drop a 20-foot, 600-pound fiberglass walleye from the sky at the stroke of Midnight on New Year's Eve.

The party starts early, at 2:30 pm, with family activities, including the popular touch-a-truck followed by a Minnow Drop just for the kiddos. The kids Walleye Drop events are indoors and include games, snacks, entertainment, face painting, and balloon animals.

The DJ hits the main stage to get the party started at 6 pm. Partake in delicious eats from a participating food truck, or grab dinner from one of many downtown Port Clinton restaurants. Don't forget to head back to the main stage at 8 pm for the start of the annual Rock, Paper, Scissors Championship. This fun contest offers cash prizes for the top four finishers.

During the last hour of 2016, the main stage will be filled with various activities including prize drawings, walleye beads thrown into crowd, on-stage photo opportunities and other exciting opportunities for event attendees. Then, count down the final minutes of 2016 and get ready to welcome the New Year! The namesake Walleye Drop will begin at 11:59:30 pm bringing in 2017 the only way the Walleye Capital of the World knows how! Confetti cannons will cover the crowd and fireworks will fill the night sky just as Wylie Walleye touches down.
