Hall of Framers – A Small Business Success Story

By Scott Terna

I was born and raised on the island of O'ahu in Hawai'i. In 1990 I found my way back to my roots and The Ohio State University, where both my parents attended college. My mother is a native of Lakewood and my late father was from Youngstown. I ended up walking on to the OSU football team in the spring of 1991 and secured a spot on the active roster. My junior year I won the starting job as the team's punter and would finish out my career the following year with All Big Ten honors. For many years after that I tried my hand at various sales jobs while pursuing the lifelong dream of playing in the NFL. I didn't quite get there but I did sign contracts with Tampa Bay and Green Bay.

I found my way on to the set of ESPN's College Gameday in the late 90s as a stage hand and after the 2002 Ohio State Buckeyes National Championship I ventured out on my own as an action sports photographer. I've been doing that since 2003 and have also widened my photographic skills into portraits, landscapes, and real estate. Being in sports photography for over a decade and a big baseball card collector, I was drawn to the sports memorabilia world. I've been fortunate enough to shoot major sporting events all over the country while being published in just about every major national sports magazine or newspaper. It was after being involved in sports memorabilia as a photographer for a few years that made me think about having my own store.

Hall of Framers in downtown Sandusky focuses mostly on Ohio teams. Most of my photo images are framed and ready for display, but I also sell loose photos. Due to my connections in the memorabilia world I can offer autographed items as well as many other accessories to decorate any sporting room, office, or man cave. If I don't have what someone is looking for I can usually find it. Ohio State items will always dominate my customer base but some of the most popular items in the store are Cavalier championship items and GV Artwork T-shirts which are locally made in Lakewood.

Unique items in my store include my own personal photography displayed throughout. I have always had a fondness for Bald Eagles and having grown up in Hawai'i I had never seen one in the wild until I arrived in Sandusky. I also have some really nice photos of the area's local raptors.

I'm relatively new to the Sandusky area and have been watching the downtown area pick up over the past two years when I first started looking for a location to open my store. I have been open since June 2016 and I like the feel of the downtown area and want to be a part of the rebuilding I see happening. When I'm downtown I like to visit my neighbor Captain John's because he has so many cool items in his store. He's always getting new and unique things. When I’m hungry it’s almost too hard to pass up the perch sandwich at The Lunch Box. If I'm in the mood for a coffee I stop in to Mr. Smith's for one of their seasonal lattes.

I welcome everyone to stop in to chat or just look around. Mahalo and Aloha!
